Badlapur (stylized as बदलाPUR) is a 2015 Indian crime drama film directed by Sriram Raghavan and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Sunil Lulla. The film stars Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles, with Huma Qureshi, Yami Gautam,Vinay Pathak, Divya Dutta, and Radhika Apte in supporting roles. The film was released on 20 February 2015.
Plot summary
Misha (Yami Gautam) and her son Robin become the unfortunate victims of a bank robbery getaway during a shopping trip. Liak (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and his friend Harman (Vinay Pathak) are on the run after robbing a bank and use Misha's car to flee. Robin falls out of the moving vehicle during the struggle, while Misha is shot by Liak. Both mother and son later succumb to their injuries in hospital. Harman jumps out of the car to protect the money while Liak is arrested. Harman agrees to Liak to give his share after he gets out of prison.
Raghu (Varun Dhawan), shattered from the loss of both his wife and his son, immerses himself in seeking revenge from both culprits. Liak is sentenced to 20 years in prison but refuses to reveal the identity of his partner in crime.
15 years later, a cancer ridden and terminally ill Liak is freed from prison on compassionate grounds. But Raghu is still hellbent on vengeance.
After the bail, Liak is spied by an undercover police agent. Liak contacts Harman. This is known by Liak's mother and she reveals the whereabouts of Harman to Raghu. Raghu finds Harman. He interrogates him after meeting Harman's wife Kanchan (Radhika Apte). Harman pleads to Raghu to not to reveal his name to the cops. He confesses that he didn't kill his son and wife, Liak did. He convinces Raghu by giving the share of money of Liak, which he promised him to give him after his return from prison.
Liak meets his former girlfriend (Huma Qureshi) for one last time. He vows to get his money. He is indulged into a fight with Raghu after breaking into his home. Raghu reveals that he killed his partner Harman and his wife Kanchan. Liak finally confesses that he killed his wife and son in anger.
The police in charge of this case finds that Raghu has murdered Harman and his wife and offers a deal with him, to surrender the money for a clean chit. Raghu disagrees.
Liak confesses his crime to the police that he killed Harman and his wife and even reveals the dead bodies. He gives Raghu a second chance to live his life doing one good thing in his life before dying.
Liak dies due to his cancer. Jhimli concludes the movie by saying to Raghu that you killed innocent people to get your revenge (Badla). She says that life never gives a second chance. You have a second chance now. Now that your revenge is complete, what good did it do to you? Raghu says nothing and Jhimli leaves.

Raja Sen from Rediff rated it 4/5 and said "Badlapur is a dark, unflinching, fantastic film" Sudhish Kamath from The Hindu wrote that "Badlapur Darkly ambitious and very well made" Rachit Gupta from Filmfare stated that "Badlapur to have Exhilarating performances, stellar storytelling"
Box office
According to Koimoi, the film collected INR320 million (US$5.0 million) in five days at the domestic box-office, with INR72 million (US$1.1 million) on the first day.
